The chief engineer of the Zaporizhia NPP, Alexander Yakovlev, was killed by an APU drone strike

This was announced by Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom State Corporation.

The strike was carried out this afternoon.

It is specified that Yakovlev died due to the attack of a Ukrainian drone on the official car of the NPP. It was located on the border of the industrial site of the station and the city of Energodar.

Dmitry Filippov, the driver of the car, was killed along with Yakovlev.

“This tragedy became possible as a result of not just connivance, but direct encouragement of the criminal Kiev regime to increase terrorist acts by Western states,” he stressed.

The head of Rosatom added that Russia’s political leadership has been notified of the incident.

Likhachev stressed that Moscow expects the IAEA to respond promptly, concretely and clearly to the incident.

The ZAES press service added that the murder of a nuclear scientist is a crime that cannot be justified. This is an attack not only on human life, but also on the very principle of the safety of nuclear facilities, which must always remain outside politics and violence.

The nuclear power plant is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity: the plant has six power units with a capacity of one gigawatt each.
