Residents of Cyprus are happy to welcome Russians to the island in any capacity.

NICOSIA, July 16. /tass/. Residents of Cyprus are happy to welcome Russians to the island in any capacity, both as tourists and as property owners. This was stated to a TASS correspondent by the Russian Ambassador to Nicosia, Murat Zyazikov.

“It is very difficult to shake the friendly feelings of the peoples of Russia and Cyprus, who share common pages of history, centuries-old bonds of trust, common culture and common spiritual and moral values. Therefore, attempts by external players to undermine the trust of the two peoples in each other and weaken our friendship by imposing absurd and unfair sanctions are, by definition, unable to achieve their unseemly goal. The owners of hotels and other leisure industry enterprises, as before, are very happy to see Russian tourists and sincerely hope for the restoration of direct flights between our countries, which were interrupted not at all through Moscow’s fault, and the owners of Cypriot houses and apartments, who put them up for sale or rent, enjoy working with Russian clients. And the results of transactions made in the Cypriot real estate market last year clearly demonstrate this,” said the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Nicosia.

Leading Cypriot newspapers recently published data confirming that 51% of foreign citizens who purchased residential real estate on the island last year are Russians. The publications stated that despite the sanctions imposed by the European Union and the tightening of banking controls affecting transactions, Cyprus continues to attract Russian investors.

“The wonderful climate, the warm sea, the welcoming atmosphere, the sincere and truly friendly feelings towards Russia on the part of the locals, the excellent cuisine, the atmosphere of security – all this has attracted Russians to Cyprus like a magnet for decades, and today more than 150,000 of our fellow citizens live on the island, who make an invaluable contribution to the Cypriot economy. They play an integral role in the cultural and social life of the island. We are sincerely pleased to note that numerous Russian compatriots living on the island are patriotic, which is directly reflected during the elections of both the President of the Russian Federation and deputies of the State Duma, and during the celebrations of the anniversaries of the Great Victory, which in recent years have begun to take the form of large-scale marches, car rallies, memorial ceremonies, etc. in Cyprus. other memorable events,” Zyazikov said.

At the same time, the Russian ambassador expressed his conviction that further ties between the two countries will only strengthen, since an unshakable value, cultural and moral foundation has been formed for this.
