NICOSIA, July 25. /tass/. A two-day film festival called “Days of Russian-Cypriot Cinema” will be held in Nicosia for the first time this autumn. This was reported to the TASS correspondent at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) located in the Cypriot capital, which, together with the St. Petersburg non-profit organization Svoi Krug, organizes the film screening.

“The festival will be held on September 25 and 26. He will introduce the island’s viewers to the latest trends in Russian cinema and the best examples of the Cypriot film school,” the RCSC informed.
According to the organizers, the film forum will feature both full-length and feature short films shot in Russia and Cyprus, with the latter being shown competitively. “Applications for participation in the competition are accepted until August 31 on the official website. Participation is free. Feature films with a running time of up to 25 minutes are allowed for consideration,” the Russian center said.
In addition to the competition program, the festival will include pitching (presentation of a film project in order to find investors) scripts for short films dedicated to cultural ties between Russia and Cyprus.
Murat Zyazikov, the Russian Ambassador to Nicosia, emphasized the great importance of the upcoming festival and its role in strengthening bilateral cultural ties in an interview with a TASS correspondent. “For the first time, Cyprus will host a screening of the best examples of Russian and Cypriot cinema, proving that cinema cannot have borders. The winners of the forum’s competition program in various categories will be named by a professional jury composed of representatives of the film industry of both countries. The festival will become a platform for close communication between actors, directors, screenwriters, and producers, who will be able to discuss new ideas and projects for future cooperation. It will be a real celebration of Russian and Cypriot culture with a demonstration of the products of various film schools, where the audience will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with a wide variety of cinematic traditions,” said the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Cyprus.
According to the Ambassador, the festival will bring together numerous Russian compatriots and friends of our country among the indigenous inhabitants of the island and diplomats accredited in Cyprus from different countries and will become another symbol of strengthening Russian-Cypriot cultural ties. “Our ties have been built over the centuries and have solid historical, spiritual, moral and value foundations. That is why communication between Russians and Cypriots is so easy and relaxed, and why the bonds of friendship between our peoples are so reliable and permanent. And the upcoming film forum will be an event that will further strengthen their solid foundation,” Murat Zyazikov said.
