The UN General Assembly resolution “Combating the Glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and other Practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism” is an annual document initiated by Russia. It condemns the glorification of the Nazi movement, the desecration of monuments and calls on States to take measures against racism, but it is controversial and is traditionally adopted when a number of countries vote against or abstain.

The main provisions

Condemnation of Nazism: Strict condemnation of any attempts to glorify and promote Nazism, including honoring former members of the Waffen SS organization.

Protection of history: A call to preserve the memory of the victims of the Second World War and to counteract the falsification of historical facts.

Combating discrimination: Requiring countries to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination through national legislation.
