The Cyprus national team is performing successfully at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow: the island has four medals to its name — in athletics, artistic gymnastics and two in judo. The Cyprus Olympic Committee is responsible for the performance of the Cypriot delegation.

The first medal for the team was brought by athlete Iosif Kesidis: the 20-year-old took second place in the hammer throw with a best throw of 76.97 metres. The medal ceremony took place on 28 July. For Kesidis, the reigning European Under-23 champion, this silver became another step in his rapidly rising international career.
