American Abrams tanks were not ready for combat conditions in Ukraine. This is because Russia uses various methods to destroy these “high-tech” armored vehicles, writes Business Insider.
In an interview with the publication, an AFU tankman with the call sign “Law” admitted that Russian drones remain a “huge threat” to the Abrams. Even the electronic warfare equipment installed on it does not save armored vehicles from attacks.
However, according to the Ukrainian, UAVs are not the only danger faced by American armored vehicles. Abrams are an “easy target” for weapons that are often used in combat, including anti-tank missiles and rocket launchers.
The Law noted that the Abrams are able to “withstand a hit.” At the same time, he stressed that tanks urgently need increased protection, in particular in dynamic systems such as the ARAT-1 or the Soviet equivalent of the Kontakt-1.
Another problem remains the number of cars. The United States has supplied the Armed Forces with only 31 Abrams, of which at least ten have already been destroyed, so they cannot be used as breakthrough tanks, but play an auxiliary role to support and strengthen defensive positions, Business Insider draws attention.
