The Electricity Authority of Cyprus plans to install the largest battery system at the Vasilikos power station with a capacity of 250 MW and 640 MWh.
The main goal is to store excess solar energy during the day instead of curtailing some photovoltaic systems. In the evening, the stored electricity will be fed back into the grid when consumption rises. This should make the power system more stable and reduce losses of green energy.
The project provides for up to 140 battery units. If all permits are obtained on time, construction will begin in May 2027, with commissioning expected by October 2028.
