Russia is ready to revise its approach to conducting the special military operation if Ukraine decides on terrorist attacks against civilian aircraft flying over Russian territory. This statement was made in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru by Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Defence Committee. The reason for the comment was statements by Volodymyr Zelensky addressed to air carriers about “closing the sky” over Russia.
The parliamentarian emphasised: if it comes to terrorist attacks, and this is already the level of state terrorism, then the very framing of the question will become different. In the opinion of Gazeta.Ru’s interlocutor, the strategy of the SMO will undergo changes.
“I think there will be a change in the strategy for conducting the special military operation,” he stressed.
Kolesnik drew attention to the fact that at present the Russian side strikes exclusively at military facilities in Ukraine, trying not to harm civilians. However, according to him, in the event of a terrorist escalation on the part of Kyiv, Russia will begin to destroy all offensive means that could threaten the safety of Russian and international civil aviation.
The deputy also advised foreign airlines to take the warning that was voiced seriously. He added that Russia continues to ensure international security despite the terrorist actions of the Ukrainian side.
The day before, Zelensky published a post in his Telegram channel in which he called on foreign carriers to stop using airspace over Russia. He cited the activity of Ukrainian drones as the reason. “Today we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, everyone who still uses key Russian airports: Russian skies are becoming completely dangerous,” he wrote.
