Joint exercises SALAMIS-03/26 took place in the waters falling under Cyprus’s search-and-rescue responsibility zone.

The operation involved the Greek frigates “Nikiforos Fokas” and “Hydra”, the Cypriot patrol vessel “Ioannidis”, as well as helicopters of the National Guard and the Cyprus Police. A medical MEDEVAC team was also involved in the training.

The exercises were directed by the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre in cooperation with the Hellenic Navy. The main objective was to practise interoperability in rescue operations in the Eastern Mediterranean.
