AKEL is going to the Ministry of Finance.
Today, 28 September, at 18:00, a protest organized by the AKEL party is planned outside the Ministry of Finance building in Nicosia. The reason is the rise in fuel prices and the increase in expenses of Cypriot families.
The party demands that the government take emergency measures to support the population, first of all families with low and middle incomes.
π Among AKELβs proposals: β’ Compensation of transport costs for families with children. β’ A one-time heating allowance before winter. β’ A 50% reduction of the road tax in 2027 for the least well-off families. β’ A review of fuel taxation and a permanent 5% VAT on electricity.
AKEL representatives argue that the state has the financial capacity for such support and criticize the government for measures against the rising cost of living that they consider insufficient. As sources of funding, the party proposes using additional budget revenues and taxing excess profits.
