A gigafactory for traction batteries has started operating in the capital and has become the first enterprise of a new energy-storage systems cluster. In the coming months, another lithium-ion battery plant is planned to open here. Once both plants reach full capacity, they will be able to produce up to 33 million battery cells a year.
The batteries will be used in electric cars, electric buses, trams, river vessels, industrial equipment, robots, and stationary energy-storage systems. The enterprises will create more than 2,100 jobs.
By 2030, the Moscow cluster is expected to cover almost 70% of the Russian battery market’s needs.
