the authorities promise to reduce queues and solve the parking problem.
By the end of 2026, the Main Hospital of Larnaca plans to complete the second stage of the reconstruction of the emergency department (TAEP). This was announced by the new director of the medical institution, Stalo Charalambous.
After the completion of the works, the area of the department will increase almost twofold, and the number of examination rooms will grow from 6 to 10. It is expected that this will make it possible to speed up the reception of patients and reduce the prolonged waiting times that residents have been complaining about for more than a year.
However, the expansion of premises is only part of the solution. The management is also discussing with the trade unions the reorganization of the work of medical personnel and the possibility of freeing up additional hospital beds.
🚗 Another serious problem is the shortage of parking spaces. The hospital is negotiating with the Church of Cyprus on the lease of a land plot for staff parking in order to free up spaces for patients and visitors.
In addition, the management acknowledged that a significant part of the complaints is related to the behavior of individual employees, especially in the emergency department. Additional training is planned for the staff.
Despite the modernization already carried out, patients continue to face long waiting times. The situation is complicated by the limited choice of alternative emergency care in Larnaca compared with Nicosia and Limassol.
