The State Duma adopted a law on deprivation of citizenship for non-registration for military service

At the plenary session, the State Duma adopted in the first reading and in general the law on termination of acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation for failure to fulfill the obligation to initially register for military service.

The initiative was sponsored by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, head of the United Russia faction Vladimir Vasiliev, LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky, Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Fair Russia — For Truth party Sergei Mironov and other deputies.

The explanatory note to the draft law notes that its novelty is a dispositive norm, according to which failure to fulfill the obligation of initial military registration by a person who has acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation will serve as a basis for termination of this citizenship.

The draft law also proposes to synchronize the processes of putting a citizen on military registration and obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation. To this end, the draft law provides for the obligation of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia to provide in electronic form using a unified system of interdepartmental electronic interaction information about male persons in respect of whom a decision has been made to become a citizen of the Russian Federation and it is planned to organize the swearing-in of a citizen.
