Newborns in the occupied territories of Cyprus were poisoned with alcohol

A tragedy has occurred in the neonatal department of one of the hospitals in the occupied territories of Cyprus.

According to local media, the staff mistakenly used pure alcohol instead of water to prepare a mixture designed to feed seven babies. As a result, one of the babies died, six others are in critical condition and need intubation. Parents are temporarily prohibited from visiting children.

The relatives of the deceased child, who was only 20 days old, reported that he was absolutely healthy and was preparing for discharge. Initially, the hospital management tried to hush up the incident, but it became public when the parents of the deceased baby were called to testify to the police.

An investigation is now underway to establish how such a mixture of substances could have occurred. This case is not the first in a series of other tragic events related to the deaths of infants in the occupied territories. In Turkey itself, a trial is also underway in the case of a criminal group that, according to charges, intentionally contributed to the deaths of newborns in order to receive insurance payments.
