Medical staff appealed to citizens to be especially careful during the holidays and avoid excessive consumption of drinks and food, as well as reckless driving behavior that could lead them to the Department of Traumatology and Emergency Care (TAEP) on Monday, December 23.

In a statement on the occasion of the Christmas and New Year holidays, the health workers wish the patients strength and a speedy recovery, while urging the public to be especially careful with their health, as in the past few days, both the Nicosia General Hospital and the Limassol General Hospital have become overcrowded, resulting in patients having to wait long hours for an examination.

In addition, many patients in need of hospitalization wait more than a day for beds to be vacated in inpatient wards.

PASYDY’s Department of General Medical Personnel reports that ambulances remain outside the TAEP for a significant period of time until a bed is available to examine patients.

“Although some measures have been taken in the right direction (by providing beds in private hospitals), we believe that the problem should be controlled by the Ministry of Health. Immediate and substantial solutions must be proposed to ensure patient safety, proper operation of the TAP, as well as proper professional working conditions for staff,” he adds.

Finally, this once again highlights the problem of the safety of employees working at TAEP. No one is immune from cases of violence, especially these days when they will be away from their families and loved ones.
