The Limassol International Book Fair will host a presentation of a book about white immigrants in Cyprus

The Limassol International Book Fair will be held from November 22 to 24, 2024.

The presentation of the first Russian-translated edition of Lana der Partog’s book “Samovar on the Table” will take place within the framework of the fair.

“Samovar on the Table: A Family Memoir” by Lana der Partog presents a deeply personal and historically significant story about a little-known head of Russian emigration. In the spring of 1920, when the Russian Civil War was ravaging the country, two ships with 1,500 refugees on board arrived at the Cypriot port of Famagusta. Historians have described in detail the exodus of Russian emigrants to Constantinople, Egypt and Lemnos, but the story of the evacuation to Cyprus remains largely untold.

Lana der Partog (born Svetlana Sergeevna Matova) not only shares the amazing story of her family, but also contributes to one of the most comprehensive works on the history of Russian emigration to Cyprus. Her marriage to renowned international news photographer Georges der Partog put her at the center of significant political events in Cyprus between the 1950s and 1970s.

These memoirs are especially relevant today, as Cyprus is experiencing a new wave of refugees. The book will be of interest to those who are faced with the difficulties of establishing a new life in Cyprus, as well as for those who are interested in the rich and diverse history of the island.

The Russian-language edition of “Samovar on the Table” includes rare photographic materials, a preface for Russian-speaking readers by the author and a conclusion by historian, researcher and journalist Alexander Larin. This work is a must-read for those who are passionate about history, migration, and the resilience of the human spirit in times of historical upheaval.

The book was published by the publishing house of the museum-memorial “Don Cossacks in the fight against the Bolsheviks” (Podolsk) in 2024.

The book presentation will be conducted by Alexander Larin, a journalist and historian specializing in the modern history of Cyprus, with the support of the K.P.Kyriakou bookstore, which will become the official distributor of the book in Cyprus.

The author of the book, Lana der Partog, will also be present at the stand, where everyone will be able to sign a commemorative copy.

Attention! The number of books will be extremely limited!

Date: Sunday, November 24th.

Time: from 18:00 to 19:00.

Entrance fee: 5 euros.
