Russia has successfully launched its first three icebreaking gas carriers, the Alexei Kosygin, Pyotr Stolypin and Sergei Witte, despite the sanctions. These Arc7 ice class vessels are being built for the Arctic LNG-2 strategic project in Yamal.

The Alexey Kosygin gas carrier is already undergoing sea trials, and the first two tankers are scheduled to be transferred to Novatek in early 2025. In total, it is planned to build 15 vessels for the project, but the deadlines for the delivery of the first five were repeatedly postponed.

The Arctic LNG-2 project is developing with difficulties: although the first line was launched in December 2023, work has been suspended for the winter. The commissioning of the third line has been postponed to 2028. But despite all the challenges, the construction of gas carriers and the development of exports continue.
