On January 9, 2024, two large-scale protest actions took place in Cyprus, organized by the Pan-Cypriot Peace Council in connection with the visit of Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog. The first demonstration took place at the roundabout of Larnaca Airport at 16:00, and the second at the entrance to the Presidential Palace in Nicosia at 16:30.
Representatives of the Council of Russian Compatriots, the International Movement of Russophiles (Cyprus) and the Cyprus-Russia Friendship Association took part in the events. The participants expressed their categorical disagreement with the ongoing Israeli military actions and genocide against the Palestinian people.
The protesters condemned the actions of the Israeli army, which lead to the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, women, children and the elderly in Palestine and Lebanon. They stated that in the context of the ongoing killings, the Israeli President’s visit is an insult to the Cypriot people, who themselves are struggling with the consequences of the occupation.
The participants of the rally called for an immediate cessation of military operations and mass killings directed against civilians, stressing that such actions threaten peace and stability in the region.
