Government spokesman Konstantinos Letimbiotis said on Tuesday that foreign experts have completed a report on Prometheas, a milestone that has become an important milestone in reducing electricity prices in Cyprus.
“The inspection and the report of foreign experts on the modernization of the Prometheas vessel have been completed. This event marks a crucial step in the implementation of our strategy to reduce the cost of electricity in our country,” said Letimbiotis.
The report outlines the actions that need to be taken so that the vessel receives the necessary FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Units) certification and can operate efficiently and safely in accordance with international standards.
“The assessment of the works proposed by experts will allow us to accurately determine the timing and cost of completing the modernization,” he said.
Letimbiotis added that the next step will be an expression of interest from Etyfa, which will complete the certification of the vessel.
“Completing the transformation of Prometheas is not just a technological undertaking, but at the same time it is inextricably linked to the central pillar of our energy policy: the development of a reliable natural gas terminal capable of offering cheaper electricity to our citizens and at the same time contributing to Cyprus’ growing role in the broader regional energy market,” he said.
According to him, the government is also in the final stages of concluding a contract with a project manager to complete work at the Vasiliko terminal.
“With determination and dedication, we will continue to work towards our main goal of providing households and businesses with access to cheaper electricity,” he added.
