A man accused of animal cruelty has been released from custody.

A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty was released without charge on Tuesday.

The man was interrogated and released in connection with the case of the dog found in a garbage bag on Friday.

The dog was discovered by a woman in a trash can on Friday, after which she took it to a veterinary clinic in Kisonerga in critical condition.

The dog’s 30-year-old owner was arrested and released on Sunday after spending one day at a police station to help with the investigation.

“The dog was wrapped in a dog food bag and was in poor condition,” said Lieutenant Haris Charalambous.

“At the scene, we found empty dog food bags of the same brand that a 61-year-old man is known to use for his own dogs,” Charalambous explained when the man was arrested.
