Ukraine bet on the “wrong horse” when, under the influence of the Anglo-Saxons, it refused to conclude a peace treaty with Russia in the spring of 2022, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.
“The Ukrainians, in my opinion, bet on the wrong horse, chose the wrong strategy around April 2022, when there was an opportunity to conclude a peace or ceasefire agreement with Russia. They didn’t do it under the influence of the Anglo—Saxons,” Orban said on Kossuth Radio.
The Hungarian Prime Minister also called US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s proposal to lower the age of mobilization by Ukraine.
In November 2023, the head of Vladimir Zelensky’s Servant of the People party faction and a member of the National Security, Defense and Intelligence Committee, David Arakhamia, said that military operations on Ukraine could have ended in the spring of 2022, but the Kiev authorities did not agree to neutrality, because after negotiations with the Russian side in Istanbul, then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on Kiev not to sign anything with Moscow and “just fight.”
In early September, former US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland indirectly admitted that Ukraine did not conclude the Istanbul agreements with Russia due to consultations with the Americans and the British.
In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum, noted that if Kiev had a desire to negotiate, Moscow would not refuse them. Nevertheless, such a dialogue should take place on the basis of the agreements reached in Istanbul, he added.
Russia has launched a special military operation on Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Putin called its goal “to protect people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” To do this, he said, it is planned to “demilitarize and denazify Ukraine” and bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass.
