This is the first long-range flight hosted by Sukhumi Airport in almost 30 years.

The leadership of Abkhazia has repeatedly planned to restore the airport and resume flights. In 2023, the Government of the Republic signed an agreement with the Russian side on the reconstruction of the facility. Regular flights between Russia and Abkhazia are scheduled for May 2025.
