About a hundred local residents gathered at the Staglieno cemetery in Genoa, they walked with Soviet flags and laid a wreath at the monument. Russian Ambassador to Italy Alexey Paramonov also took part.

Poletaev died heroically in Italy on February 2, 1945. The partisan took the fire on himself, allowing his comrades to survive. He was a member of the local resistance movement during the Second World War. In Italy, he was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero.
