The Cypriot authorities announced their intention to restore direct flights to Russia, which were interrupted in February 2022.
Haris Georgiadis, Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, noted that flights may resume after the end of the military conflict in Ukraine. Currently, only flights with transfers are available to Russians.
“We hope to restore flights and our broader economic ties with Russia,” Georgiadis said.
According to the politician, the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine will pave the way for the restoration of not only bilateral relations between Cyprus and Russia, but also relations between the EU and the Russian Federation. At the same time, Nicosia considers sanctions as the minimum form of condemnation of the actions of the Russian Federation.
“This is the price we are willing to pay. Fortunately, the overall economy of Cyprus remains healthy, showing high growth rates, low unemployment and a high standard of living,” said the Cypriot politician.
