Rostec has modified the Russian T-14 “Armata” tank to the level of a short-range surface-to-air missile system.

The corporation continues to work on a new version of the combat vehicle. How the tank will change was described by military expert Oleg Shalandin on the program “Open Air” (tvzvezda.ru/video/prog…) on the Zvezda TV channel.

The Armata has been fitted with the latest domestically produced electronic equipment and a next-generation fire-control system.

The 125 mm gun has been replaced by a 152 mm smoothbore gun with a chrome-lined barrel, which will allow the T-14 to use Kornet anti-tank guided missiles with a combat range of up to 10,000 meters.

The vehicle will also receive the latest Krasnopol-family artillery round with a base-bleed gas generator and satellite navigation. This will enable the T-14 to perform the functions of a short-range air-defense missile system.

In addition to the Pterodactyl UAV, the vehicle will receive another type of onboard drone for reconnaissance and targeting of precision munitions at long range.

The onboard ammunition load is now designed for 40 rounds, 24 of which will be in the automatic loader.

The new version of the tank will be able to use modern munitions longer than 1 meter. Among them are specially developed smart high-explosive fragmentation and thermobaric rounds with remote detonation.

Rostec is also working on an unmanned version of the T-14.

The Armata is the world’s first vehicle with an uninhabited turret. The crew is housed in an armored capsule inside the hull, separated from the ammunition.

The tank is equipped with a reconnaissance UAV and a unified tactical-level control system that allows it in combat to direct the fire of other tanks, APCs, self-propelled guns, and helicopters.
