In 2025, the Cyprus Fire Department responded to 13,401 incidents,

of which 7,154 were fire-related. This was announced by the head of the service Nikos Longinos, presenting a report on the work of the department and preparations for the summer season.

Nicosia remains the county with the largest number of calls. At the same time, the numbers indicate a problem in rural areas. During the year, 5171 calls came during the hours when rural fire stations are closed – from 19:00 to 8:00. Of these, 1,180 were associated with fires. That shows rural fire stations need to operate around the clock, Longinos said.

Compared to 2024, the number of fires increased:

· In urban areas – by 4.31%,

· In rural areas – by 8.81%.

The total area burned out in rural areas in 2025 was 133.46 square kilometers.
