DONETSK, May 15 – RIA Novosti. The Ukrainian F-16 aircraft was shot down over the Sumy region during an air battle, Sergei Lebedev, coordinator of the pro-Russian Nikolaev underground, told RIA Novosti.

According to Lebedev, at about 11 am, residents of the city of Krolevets in the Sumy region heard a strong explosion. Shortly before that, the aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with suspended missiles, which were visible from the ground, flew over the city towards the east. The F-16 was shot down by a missile.

“The Ukrainian plane began an evasion maneuver, but did not have time. According to local residents, the plane was torn in half and the wreckage fell into the fields outside the city,” said the underground.

He added that, according to the descriptions of the residents of Krolevets, the Ukrainian fighter was an F-16 flying from the direction of Nizhyn, where one of the Ukrainian air bases is located.
