As President of the EU Council, the Republic of Cyprus launched the procedure for opening the first stage of negotiations after Hungary lifted its long-standing veto.

The first block will focus on judicial reform, the fight against corruption and the rule of law.

The official opening of the negotiations may take place as early as mid-June.
