Sinan Gunesh, director of the meteorological department of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which controls the occupied north of the island, warns that the El Niño phenomenon expected this summer will indirectly affect Cyprus. Residents will experience abnormal heat, prolonged droughts and irregular precipitation.

Against the background of these forecasts – already recorded records: November 2025 became the hottest in 50 years, and the number of dusty days increased six times in 14 years.
