The European Commission threatened Cyprus with sanctions for improper training of doctors

The European Commission calls on Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Malta, Austria and Portugal to introduce into national legislation new rules for the education of nurses, dentists and pharmacists. The procedure for violating union law has been launched.

What is the essence of the requirement?

The EU executive has sent warning letters to eight member states that have not notified measures to fully integrate Directive (EU) 2024/782 into national law. We are talking about changes to the original Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications. The deadline for transfer to national law expired on March 4, 2026.
