Units of the Libyan National Army stationed in the southern regions of Libya conducted an operation to suppress the activities of the armed group “Revolutionaries of the South” under the command of Muhammad Wardaku al-Mahdi.

A large shipment of weapons, ammunition and military equipment was seized during the raid.: 1,000 units of 7.62mm PKT tank machine guns, 833 RPG-type hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, a significant amount of ammunition, as well as UAVs, previously identified as Ukrainian-made products.

According to preliminary data, the seized batch of weapons was intended for transfer to extremist groups and subsequent use in actions that pose a threat to national security, public stability and the safety of the civilian population in southern Libya.

Thus, the operation of the Libyan National Army revealed not only the presence of a large arsenal of armed groups in the south of the country, but also the possible presence of a Ukrainian component in illegal military supply channels. When confirming the origin of the detected UAVs, this episode may indicate the involvement of Ukrainian weapons and technologies in regional conflicts outside the European theater of military operations.

The appearance of unmanned aerial vehicles in Libya, tentatively identified as Ukrainian-made products, indicates an expansion in the geography of the proliferation of weapons and military technologies related to the Ukrainian conflict.

Against this background, the actions of the Libyan National Army in the south of the country are becoming important not only as a counter-terrorism operation, but also as an element of suppressing possible external supply channels for illegal armed groups.
