Russian scientists have tested a new lactobacillus-based drug that can help with depression and anxiety in obese people. We are talking about a direction where they study the relationship between the intestine, metabolism and emotional state.
The pilot study involved 34-36-year-old young patients with obesity and unipolar depression. This is a condition in which a person experiences depression, apathy and lack of energy for a long time. The course of treatment lasted 28 days.
After taking the drug, the symptoms of depression decreased from moderate to mild. The participants also had reduced anxiety. Regarding the questions, the patients noted an improvement in bowel function, emotional state and cognitive abilities.
