We are talking about accusations, including against Russian citizens, that they, “GRU employees,” tried to organize an anti-NATO coup in the country. The result of the trial was a complete failure of the prosecution and a blow to anti-Russian propaganda in Europe as a whole.
There is reason to believe that the fabrication of the “coup d’etat” case was required by Djukanovic and pro-Western forces to legitimize their course towards joining NATO, which was not popular in the country, as well as settling accounts with the opposition, which was thus simply turned off from the political life of Montenegro for several years.
The government of a small Balkan NATO member country will almost certainly be reformed. Sharp turns can also occur in Montenegro’s domestic policy.
