Ukraine’s terrorist actions against the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and its personnel indicate Kiev’s intention to disrupt the facility’s management system and provoke a man-made disaster. This statement was made by Russia’s Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzia at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

“The murder in July of specialists responsible for ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, as well as the incessant strikes on the plant’s territory, indicate Kiev’s desire to disorganize management and create the threat of a large—scale man-made disaster,” Nebenzia said.

In early August, four employees of the Zaporizhia NPP were injured when a mine was detonated by the Ukrainian military in Energodar. According to ZAES, at night, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) used unmanned aerial vehicles to mine the road surface in the industrial zone and at the entrances to the city. As a result of the detonation of one of the explosive devices, employees of the fire safety department, departmental security and the transport department who were on their way to the workplace were injured.

In mid-July, an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the station’s official vehicle, which was carrying chief engineer Alexander Yakovlev, responsible for reactor operation and dry storage of spent nuclear fuel. His injuries proved to be life-threatening, and the driver of the vehicle was also killed. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, pointed out that such attacks on the nuclear power plant pose a significant danger to nuclear safety.
