Cyprus and Russia preserve the memory

On 9 August, Russia marks the Day of Military Glory — the Day of the End of the Battle of Leningrad.

In 1944, one of the longest and most heroic battles of the Great Patriotic War came to an end. The memory of the feat of the defenders of Leningrad continues to live on today — in monuments, in the flowers we lay at memorials, and in the people who pass this memory on to the next generations.

On 16 August in Limassol, a flower-laying ceremony will take place at the monument on the renovated Heroes’ Square, which recently reopened after restoration.

We will gather to honour the memory of the heroes and to remind everyone: history and memory know no borders.
