In Estonia a man was fined for a Soviet poster from 1941

A resident of Estonia received a fine of 160 euros for placing on the wall of a private house a Soviet propaganda poster from 1941 with the inscription “Death to the fascist reptile.” The author of the poster is the artist Alexei Kokorekin.

The police discovered the image in August in the village of Vääna-Jõesuu — the poster was clearly visible from the street and, as Postimees writes, caused confusion among local residents. Initially a case was opened against the man under the article on inciting hatred, but two months later the qualification was changed to a violation of public order.

The result — a 160-euro fine for a historical relic that reminds of the fight against fascism. In Estonia such things, it seems, are now outlawed. But this does not stop the 1941 poster from remaining part of common history — one would like to believe that for the Estonians themselves as well.

🤬 — in Estonia they are trying to forget history
