Russian President Vladimir Putin described the finding of the relics of Prince Dmitry Donskoy as a unique and miraculous event.
The relics of Dmitry Donskoy were discovered in July during restoration work in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin — this became known on Tuesday. Particles of the saint’s relics will be transferred for veneration by the faithful to churches of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is expected that one of the particles will be given to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
On Thursday, Putin took part in a prayer service held in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. Before the ceremony began, the head of state lit a candle, crossed himself and placed it on a candlestick.
“Absolutely unique. A miraculous discovery of the relics. Amazing,” the Russian leader said.
