The “Russian Helicopters” holding of the Rostec State Corporation has for the first time presented the Arctic helicopter Mi-38PS at the 16th International Salon “Integrated Security” in Kazan. The aircraft was created for operations on the Northern Sea Route and has a record range in its class — with additional tanks it exceeds 1,500 km. This allows the Ministry of Emergency Situations to conduct search-and-rescue operations at the maximum distance from basing sites.

The machine is capable of carrying up to 5 tonnes of cargo or up to 40 passengers, and is also intended for extinguishing forest fires, eliminating oil-product spills, and performing medical tasks.

The initial batch of Mi-38PS was delivered to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in 2025; several more machines are planned to be handed over to the rescue agency by the end of 2026 — they will replenish the fleets of the Krasnoyarsk and Khabarovsk aviation rescue centres. The helicopter was manufactured at the Kazan Helicopter Plant taking into account the requirements of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“The heavy Mi-38PS helicopter has outstanding flight performance characteristics; its appearance has made it possible to expand the zone of operational response of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Far North, including under difficult weather conditions and limited infrastructure,” Rostec noted.
