The problem of domestic and gender-based violence in Cyprus remains acute: over the past five years, the police have received about 10,000 reports, and almost 7,000 cases have gone to court.

Justice Minister Costas Fitiris reported that the authorities plan to launch the Red Flag system by the end of the year. It is designed to identify recurring warning signals before the situation escalates into a serious crime.

At the same time, parliament pointed out serious gaps in the protection of victims: a shortage of shelters, weak coordination of services, and insufficient support after seeking help.

A separate shelter for women is planned to open in Larnaca, where no such centre currently exists.
