The Federation of Patients’ Associations of Cyprus (OSAK) has stated that there are serious gaps in the forthcoming pension reform. According to its data, a person who has worked and paid contributions for 20 years may not receive a disability pension if they were unemployed for the last two years.

Separately, the organisation demands that parents who are forced to quit their jobs in order to care for a seriously ill child be taken into account. The authorities promise to change the system gradually, yet OSAK insists that some of the problems cannot be postponed.

The organisation also proposes that assistance be paid in advance to families travelling abroad for treatment, since at present the money sometimes has to be waited for for months.
