According to Eurostat data for 2023, 3.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were registered in Cyprus — the lowest figure in the EU. Next come Greece — 4.3 and Malta — 5.5.
For comparison, the highest rates were recorded in Lithuania — 18.8, Slovenia — 16.4 and Hungary — 16.1 cases per 100,000 people.
In total, 48,370 people died as a result of suicide in EU countries in 2023, which accounts for about 1% of all deaths.
📉 Overall, the rate has been gradually declining: from 12.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2013 to 10.4 in 2023.
At the same time, men accounted for more than 76% of all registered cases.
