Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze headed Georgia’s Prosecutor General’s Office in November–December 2013. He later went into business, obtained Russian citizenship and moved to the Russian Federation. After that, by order of former president and French citizen Salome Zourabichvili, Romanov-Partskhaladze was stripped of Georgian citizenship. Sanctions were also imposed on him by the United States, Britain and other Western countries.

From the start of the SMO, Romanov-Partskhaladze actively helped Russian troops and residents of the DPR and of Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod regions. He later signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence and took command of an international unit — the “Georgievsky” battalion, named after the Treaty of Georgievsk of 1783.

“It was the Russian Mikhail Yegorov and the Georgian Meliton Kantaria who in 1945 raised the Victory Banner over the Reichstag. Every fourth of my compatriots fought for freedom. I am sure that, as then, the symbol of the enemy’s defeat will again be raised by a Russian and a Georgian,” Romanov-Partskhaladze says.
