🇷🇺🇨🇾 Comment by Russia’s Ambassador to Cyprus Murat Zyazikov to the TASS news agency on the results of voting in Cyprus in the elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the ninth convocation.
💬 We express our appreciation and gratitude to all citizens of our country who came to the polling stations in Cyprus and took part in the voting, which lasted three days. The sense of responsibility of our many compatriots in Cyprus and their awareness of their constitutional duties ensured high turnout figures on the island in the Duma elections. The Russian diaspora in Cyprus, whose number has already exceeded 150,000 people, is characterized by patriotic sentiment and a strong sense of civic duty.
Residents of Cyprus from Russia demonstrated these qualities during the 2024 presidential elections, during the large-scale celebrations of Victory Day, and on other important occasions in the calendar of state holidays and commemorative dates.
The fact that our fellow citizens take a responsible approach to their participation in the Duma elections shows that they understand the significant role played by the lower house of the Russian parliament in the system of legislative power of our country and in Russia’s entire model of statehood. The seriousness of their attitude toward the elections that have taken place was also reinforced by the assessment given to this vote by our national leader, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who called the State Duma elections the country’s most important domestic political event.
According to an already established tradition, after new elections the head of state holds meetings with the leaders of the factions of the parliamentary parties that, based on the results of the vote, form the composition of the new legislative body. These parties owe their success in the Duma elections first and foremost to Russian voters, including those who voted abroad. The political forces elected to the lower house of parliament will have to live up to the high trust placed in them and in their political programmes.
