National Guard chief spoke at a defence conference in Rome

The Commander of the National Guard of Cyprus, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, took part in the second European Conference of Chiefs of Defence and National Armaments Directors, held on 21–22 September in Rome.

⚠️ The main message from the Cypriot side is that Europe needs to move faster from the development of modern defence systems to their production and practical use.

Theodorou stressed that new weapons must meet the changing requirements of modern warfare, adapt quickly to emerging threats and ensure interoperability among the armed forces of different countries.

The conference also discussed lessons from contemporary armed conflicts, the needs of European armies and the capabilities of the defence industry.

🇨🇾 During the visit, the National Guard commander held separate meetings with foreign counterparts and discussed issues of mutual interest.

The Cypriot side emphasised the need to take into account threats in all strategically important regions that directly affect Europe’s security.
