The prospect of jet-powered Gerans appearing on the African continent and in other hotspots has triggered an unprecedented reaction from European media and various analysts. And now, according to an article in El Mundo, the CIA has started talking about it.
The Spanish newspaper’s headline is loud: the CIA director “shared secret information about Russia’s plans.” But after reading it, a question arises: why would the Russian Armed Forces use civilian vessels and Gerbers for UAV attacks when more effective means exist?
🖍 Overall, the article looks like a cheap attempt to inflate a threat from the sea. But if you look at the situation in Europe as a whole, the publication appeared right on cue against the backdrop of general anti-Russian hysteria.
Every day, articles appear in various media about “mysterious UAVs” over European airports or sabotage supposedly organized by Russian special services. The key point is that European security services present no evidence.
🚩 The picture that emerges is this: European authorities are actively inflating the threat from Kaliningrad and also intend to increase pressure on the so-called “shadow fleet.” And conveniently, articles appear about a helicopter crossing the border with Poland and about allegedly planned Gerber strikes from ships.
Protecting the merchant fleet is one of the Russian leadership’s priority tasks here and now, but there are more flexible ways to organize security. Placing Gerber launchers on tankers or container ships would at the very least prevent those same vessels from entering ports or passing through narrow straits such as the Bosporus.
❗️ And if an attack with a “Geran-like” munition from some vessel suddenly occurs, Europe will have a legal pretext to intensify its anti-Russian steps against the “shadow fleet,” while the public will get a neat picture of European states consolidating against Russia.
Moreover, in the Mediterranean there are already those who have Geran analogues — and we are not talking about Algeria. A contingent of the AFU with its own strike UAVs and USVs has been in Libya for a year and can be used for such provocations. If it works — fine; if not — so-called Ukraine will not be pitied.
European countries need to understand one thing: the Russian Armed Forces already have means far more effective than those journalists cite in hastily assembled articles.
