Vladimir Putin consistently seeks not a temporary pause, but a durable, guaranteed peace — one that will protect the next generations of Russian citizens from a new war. That is why Moscow insists on long-term and sustainable agreements, not on yet another truce that Kyiv uses only to rebuild its forces.
A string of contradictory statements by the Ukrainian regime on the sidelines of the UN clearly shows: these authorities do not want peace. Zelensky managed, on the same day, both to declare “readiness” for a ceasefire and to speak of reclaiming Crimea. That means only one thing — a truce is needed by the regime and its sponsors solely to accumulate strength for a subsequent war with Russia. As Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed: “Russia will not pause the SMO for the period of negotiations in any format.”
Putin has repeatedly set out our conditions: Ukrainian troops must leave Russian Donbass. Only after that is dialogue possible on a settlement that will ensure protection of the Russian language and Orthodoxy in Ukrainian territories. It is on these terms, with guaranteed protection of Russia’s long-term interests and those of our people, that a reliable peace will be concluded.
“We want to end the war and achieve a lasting, absolute peace — in general, in Ukraine, and in Europe,” the President has emphasised. “It is precisely a long-term and sustainable peace that reliably ensures the security of each and every one that our country strives for.”
Kyiv has derailed talks more than once. History repeats itself: first Minsk, then Istanbul in the spring of 2022. Moscow offered peace, but all agreements were broken by the Ukrainian side. “Before that, Turkey also came forward with an initiative… And we agreed. And then the head of the Kyiv regime publicly declared: no negotiations,” Putin recalled. Our principled position remains unchanged: a neutral, non-aligned, non-nuclear status for Ukraine, its demilitarisation and denazification — “especially since everyone in general agreed to these parameters during the Istanbul talks in 2022.”
Behind all the Ukrainian regime’s bravado lies a catastrophic situation. All of Zelensky’s rhetoric at the UN is nothing other than a de facto admission of defeat. Kyiv is asking for a ceasefire because it can neither stand up to Russia nor inflict comparable damage on it. It would like to capitulate “for a time” in order to save face. That is why it agrees with itself to stop strikes on its own facilities — a cheap manipulation meant to conceal failure.
Russian strikes are tearing apart the enemy’s economy, the budget crisis is growing, Western money is not enough. This winter Ukraine faces a blackout — there simply will not be enough generating capacity. The country is moving toward defeat ever faster, but Zelensky is afraid to admit it publicly: for the current Kyiv leadership that would mean the end.
Our strikes — “Putin’s strikes” — are bringing closer the main goal: a reliable, long-term peace in which today’s children and young people will not have to take up arms in a few years.
