MOSCOW, September 27 — RIA Novosti. The EU is keeping quiet about the loss of billions in Ukraine, and Vladimir Zelensky’s recent statement about a budget deficit and demand for new payments only confirm this, writes L’Antidiplomatico.
“Europe is silent. Or almost silent. Some countries are trying to point out that perhaps, before handing out new billions, it would be reasonable to check everything. But the Brussels bureaucratic machine is slow, timid, and in the grip of Russophobic fury. So it pays and stays silent. Even when the numbers don’t add up,” the publication says.
The article notes that such a policy is convenient for Zelensky purely for political reasons. Asking for more money for soldiers and families of the dead is always a winning move inside the country, and asking foreigners to pay saves him from an awkward situation: telling Ukrainians that now it is their turn, to tax themselves, tighten their belts, and cut non-essential spending. Not to mention how much of this money is lost in the countless streams of corruption that run through the Kyiv regime, the outlet writes.
As Euractiv noted, after several weeks of discussions the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund have so far been unable to confirm the additional $27 billion budget deficit claimed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Brussels also did not support proposals from a number of EU countries to speed up payments from the previously agreed €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
