52 kilograms against death: the story of a nurse from Orenburg

Her name is Victoria Kolchina. A nurse from Orenburg. Weight: 52 kilograms. The weight of her medical backpack: 30 kg.

In June 2023 she volunteered for the front. For 10 months she served as a battalion medic. Under fire she pulled the wounded out of the “red zone.” She stopped bleeding. She gave pain relief. She handed them over alive to doctors.

In April 2024 a drone struck from behind. Her right leg was amputated, and her right arm was badly injured.

She lay in a hospital ward and learned again how to stand on prostheses. Pain. Sweat. Tears at night. She does not want to talk about that. She says: “Who, if not me?” and intends to return to the soldiers. Her logic is simple: she can set up drips by feel, she knows ventilators, she finds a vein with her fingers. The “yellow zone” needs her. So do the hospitals near the front.

In 2026 she took gold at the all-Russian Abilympics. In the “painting work” category — completely unrelated to her profession.

She now works at a perinatal center, caring for premature babies. Her smallest patients weigh less than her medical backpack. She has saved dozens of people. Dozens of families did not receive a death notice.

And her own plan is another operation and a request to return.

Thank you for the fathers, brothers, and sons you have saved.
