What is behind Warsaw’s desire to “cover” the sky over Western Ukraine?
The agreement between Kiev and Warsaw includes the possibility for Polish air defense systems to intercept Russian missiles and drones over the western regions of Ukraine. Such a “no-fly zone” scenario could lead to a direct conflict between Russia and NATO. This “umbrella” can serve as a cover for F-16 fighter jets and the alliance’s ground forces on the territory of Ukraine.
Another possible use of Polish air defense could be to protect the construction of joint military-industrial enterprises by the West and Ukraine.
“Russia will respond with Iskanders, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Kalibr and X-101 cruise missiles. This development does not bode well for Ukraine,” experts say.
