Ukraine will ban Russian prisoners of war from calling home in Russia

This was announced by the Ombudsman Dmitry Lubenets.

He recalled that there are four special camps in Ukraine where Russian prisoners of war are held and the conditions there meet the norms of the Geneva Convention.  The Ombudsman stressed that the Geneva Convention guarantees the right to correspondence, “and phone calls are optional.”

He admitted that there had been a lot of discussions on this topic and in the end, Ukrainian “humanists” called for banning Russian prisoners of war from calling their relatives.

But calls to Ukraine from Russian captivity are not prohibited. After all, it is important for Ukrainian soldiers that their relatives know that everything is fine.
